Hans Armfelt HANSELL: Professional Biography

Hans Armfelt HANSELL, a Swedish economist, is the present Deputy Director and Chief of the Global Trade Solutions Branch of the Trade Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN/ECE) in Geneva. In his work he is responsible for Trade Facilitation, a priority work sector of the UN/ECE, and Dr. Hansell has been instrumental in the re-organization of this work at the UNECE with a view to enhancing its strategic role in a global context.

He joined the United Nations in 1992 after almost 20 years of professional experience in trade, trade promotion and export development. He previously was the Executive Director of the Swedish Trade Procedures Council (SWEPRO) for eight years, served as advisor to the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, and worked as Business Director for Swedish companies for several years.

Dr. Hansell has extensive experience in information technology and trade information infrastructure and is also, on behalf of the UNECE, supporting the WSIS process (World Summit for the Information Society).

Dr. Hansell holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration and he has written numerous articles on business, organizational and transport issues. He has been a frequent lecturer at universities and conferences on factors for economic development, business, organizational and transport issues and has represented the UN/ECE at numerous international conferences and symposia.
